Miro's Game
11 x 14

The above project was inspired by this original,
Miro's Game. Here you can see that this one is designed
around a party and games. The  larger one above 14 x 18
is inspired from Miro's Game but with many changes
to make it an original for the collector. It does not have
the gaming elements, the ottomans are different as well
as the throw pillows, carpet and many other subtle changes.
Romancing Miro was designed with a similar
theme to Miro's Game.

You can pick  a theme, even if the painting is sold and I
can repaint it for you with the changes you would like to
have or I can design one just for you.

Painting with The Masters
Art within Art Series

I love Miro, his primary colors and his childlike style. I painted a similar room to this
before. My collector loved the room and the painting I used that is similar to Miro's
of course with my changes. The first was a theme of a gambling party and the aftermath.
My collector is not in to gaming so we decided to make it more os a romantic theme but
using most of the colors and furniture I used in the first.

I am including a photo of the first so you can see the changes. I do this general idea for
every similar painting that I repaint. Many collectors find paintings that they like in my
portfolio that have already been sold.  I offer to repaint the painting for them but I like to
make changes so that each one is an original for that collector. If you see something that
you like that is already sold that you would like to have a similar of, Contact Me with your
ideas and don't forget to mention the titles. Of course I can also design on just for you
with your favorite Master as well. You can check out all of my series on My Portfolio.
This painting will also live in Brazil.
Enjoy!

Joan Miró i Ferrà  (April 20, 1893 – December 25, 1983) was a Spanish Catalan painter,
sculptor and ceramicist born in Barcelona A museum dedicated to his work, the
Fundacio Joan Miro, was established in his birth city in 1975.
Earning international acclaim, his work has been interpreted as Surrealism, a sandbox
for the subconscious mind, a re-creation of the childlike, and a manifestation of Catalan
pride. In numerous interviews dating from the 1930s onwards, Miró expressed contempt for conventional painting methods as a way of supporting bourgeois society, and famously
declared an "assassination of painting" in favour of upsetting the visual elements of
established painting.

"The spectacle of the sky overwhelms me. I'm overwhelmed when I see, in an immense sky, the crescent of the moon, or the sun. There, in my pictures, tiny forms in huge empty
spaces. Empty spaces, empty horizons, empty plains - everything which is bare has always greatlynimpressed me.Joan Miró, 1958, quoted in Twentieth-Century Artists on Art.

In an interview with biographer Walter Erben, Miró expressed his dislike for art critics, saying, "They are more concerned with being philosophers than anything else.
They form a preconceived opinion, then they look at the work of art. Painting merely
serves as a cloak in which to wrap their emaciated philosophical systems.

In the final decades of his life Miró accelerated his work in different media, producing hundreds of ceramics, including the Wall of the Moon and Wall of the Sun
at the UNESCO building in Paris. He also made temporary window paintings (on glass)
for an exhibit. In the last years of his life Miró wrote his most radical and least known ideas,
exploring the possibilities of gas sculptor and four-dimensional painting.

Today, Miró's paintings sell for between US$250,000 and US$26 million; US$17 million at a U.S. auction for the La Caresse des étoiles (1938) on May 6, 2008, at the time the highest
amount paid for one of his works. In 2012, Painting-Poem
("le corps de ma brune puisque je l'aime comme machatte habillée en vert salade
comme de lagrêle c'est pareil") (1925) was sold at Christie's London
for $26.6 million.Later that year at Sotheby's in London, Peinture (Etoile Bleue) (1927) brought nearly 23.6 million pounds with fees, more than twice what it had sold
at a Paris auction in 2007  and a record price for the artist at auction.

Picasso Inspired Painting, 3 Musicians by k Madison Moore

Three Musicians
Inspired by Picasso

©kMadisonMooreMkM2012

24 x 28 Oil Painting on Canvas

Sold - Commission

The Three Musicians is a painting that I never get tired of painting.
I have no idea how many times I have used my impression of this wonderful
Picasso painting. Each time I pair it, I do a different impression and I have to say
so far this one is my favorite. The colors are more brilliant, the details are
sharper and it is a great size. Maybe some day I will actually have time to
paint one for me! On it's way to Brazil soon.

If you like any of my paintings that are already sold I can repaint them
in any size you wish. I change elements and can add elements that
you would like to have as well. Contact me with your ideas.

Picasso, Henri Matisse and Marcel Duchamp are commonly regarded as the three artists who most defined the revolutionary developments in the plastic arts in the opening decades of the 20th century, responsible for significant developments in painting, sculpture, printmaking and ceramics.
Picasso demonstrated extraordinary artistic talent in his early years, painting in a realistic manner through his childhood and adolescence. During the first decade of the 20th century, his style changed as he experimented with different theories, techniques, and ideas. His revolutionary artistic accomplishments brought him universal renown and immense fortune, making him one of the best-known figures in 20th century art.
Picasso’s work is often categorized into periods. While the names of many of his later periods are debated, the most commonly accepted periods in his work are the  Blue Period (1901–1904), the Rose Period (1905–1907), the African-influenced Period (1908–1909), Analytic Cubism  (1909–1912), and Synthetic Cubism (1912–1919).
In 1939–40 the  Museum of Modern Art in New York City, under its director  Alfred Barr, a Picasso enthusiast, held a major and highly successful retrospective of his principal works up until that time. This exhibition lionized the artist, brought into full public view in America the scope of his artistry, and resulted in a reinterpretation of his work by contemporary art historians and scholars.

I Posted this after Matisse painting a few days ago and every time
I looked at it I wasn't happy with it. I was trying to follow more
of the Matisse style with less detail and less vivid colors.
Matisse used  a lot of  drab colors and olive greens in the two
paintings I used as reference. They are not popular colors with
me. I decided to rework it more to my colors and of course so
much more detail. Now...I like it. Hope you do too!

I had a great time with this one. I combines two Matisse paintings together and add others for the was Everything in this painting is Matisse including that funny little cat. Matisse was so bold and free. I always have so much fun combining his patterns and collecting all of the colorful elements for my compositions. Enjoy!

Henri Matisse 31 December 1869 – 3 November 1954) was
a French artist,  known for his use of color  and his fluid and original
draughtsmanship.
In 1905, Matisse and a group of artists now known as "Fauves"
exhibited together in a room at the Salon d' Automne. The paintings
expressed emotion with wild, often dissonant colors, without regard
 for the subject's natural colors.

In 1907 Apollinaire, commenting about Matisse in an article published
in La Falange, said, "We are not here in the presence of an extravagant
or an extremist undertaking: Matisse's art is eminently reasonable."
But Matisse's work of the time also encountered vehement criticism,
and it was difficult for him to provide for his family. His controversial
1907  painting Bu bleu was burned in effigy at the Armory Show in
 Chicago in 1913.
The decline of the Fauvist movement, after 1906, did nothing to affect the
rise of Matisse; many of his finest works were created between 1906
and 1917,when he was an active part of the great gathering
of artistic talent in Montparnesse, even though he did not quite fit in,
with his conservative appearance and strict bourgeois work habits.

Around 1904 he met Pablo Picasso, who was 12 years younger than he.
The two became life-long friends as well as rivals and are often compared; one
key difference between them is that Matisse drew and painted from nature,
while Picasso was much more inclined to work from imagination. The subjects
painted most frequently by both artists were women and still life, with Matisse
more likely to place his figures in fully realized interiors.

I think I have only painted with Roy Lichtenstien
once before so thought I would try another. I was
surprised to fins a couple of his works that were
similar to Picasso like this crazy lady on the sofa
reflecting in the mirror, just had to  paint her twice,
the paintings on the wall, the fish tank and table,
the flowers and the carpet are my impression of
elements from several of his works. This on is
full of detail and brilliant colors!  I love to do
reflections, almost like doing a puzzle.
Enjoy!

Roy Lichtenstein was born in New York City on October 27, 1923
American painter, sculptor, and printmaker, startled the art world in
1962 by exhibiting paintings based on comic book cartoons.

Lichtenstein was best known for his paintings based on comic strips,
with their themes of passion, romance, science fiction, violence, and
war. In these paintings, Lichtenstein uses the commercial art methods:
projectors magnify spray-gun stencils, creating dots to make the
pictures look like newspaper cartoons seen through a magnifying glass.
In the late 1960s he turned to design elements and the commercial art
of the 1930s, as if to explore the history of pop art (a twentieth-century
art movement that uses everyday items). In 1966 his work was included
in the Venice (Italy) Biennale art show. In 1969 New York's
Guggenheim Museum gave a large exhibition of his work.

I can't seem to ever get enough of Klimt. He is very hard to
paint with because the details and symbols are endless.
I think I really like to challenge myself with his work.

With "An Asian Evening with Klimt", I used his painting
"Expectations" for the wall. I always loved this piece.
He did the full body painting and just the portrait so I thought
this would be a nice piece to design this painting around.
The lovely lady is from another of Klimt's works
but I change her face to be Asian and added the gown.
Of course I wanted to use as many tones of red that
I could for this piece.

I love Asian art and all of the beautiful details they use.
I researched asian furniture and accessories for this composition
and it seemed that every single element was full of detail.
Needless to say, this painting took a "Very" long time to paint!

Enjoy!

Gustav Klimt (July 14, 1862– February 6, 1918) was an Austrian Symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession movement. His major works include paintings, murals, sketches, and other art objects. Klimt's primary subject was the female body, and his works are marked by a frank eroticism—nowhere is this more apparent than in his numerous drawings in pencil

He has been called the preeminent exponent of ART NOUVEAU. Klimt began (1883) as an artist-decorator in association with his brother and Franz Matsoh. In 1886-92, Klimt executed mural decorations for staircases at the Burgtheater and the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna; these confirmed Klimt's eclecticism and broadened his range of historical references. Klimt was a cofounder and the first president of the Vienna Secession, a group of modernist architects and artists who organized their own exhibition society and gave rise to the SECESSION MOVEMENT, or the Viennese version of Art Nouveau. He was also a frequent contributor to Ver Sacrum, the group's journal.

There were several paintings that announced a change in Klimt’s career. The first was a work that Klimt produced for the rich industrialist Nikolaus Dumba. In 1899 he asked Makart, Matsch and Klimt to decorate three rooms in his villa. Klimt was responsible for the music room and he painted Music II and Shubert at the Piano. Nuda Veritas, painted in the same year, includes a quotation from the dramatist Schiller: ‘If you cannot please everyone with your art, please a few. To please many is bad’. Klimt, who had previously worked hard to please his public, now acknowledged no standards but his own...

From around 1900 until his death in 1918, Gustav Klimt dominated the art scene in the capital of the empire of Austro-Hungary. The Vienna of Sigmund Freud, Gustav Mahler, Arnold Schönberg and Stefan Zweig, the Vienna of the great walzes, the Belle Epoque, a city admired all over the world for its artistic and cultural quality and diversity. One of the pre-eminent cities of Europe and a rival to London and Paris.

I don't think I will ever tire of painting with Picasso. Every time
I research him I find more and more information and works of his that
I have not seen before. I found this painting of Dora Marr recently
and decided that since they had such a long relationship, that
I wanted to paint this one.

I included a bit of scenery with the buildings in the back ground
from Paris. The table with the still life is my take on it from his paintings
with several changes including the candle which is from another of his
paintings. I added the wine and glasses and took out a few other
elements. The small painting on the wall is one that Dora painted of
Pablo. Hence the title: "Dora and Picasso - A Paris Afternoon"

The pitcher on the floor is from one of Picasso's still life's and of
course the larger painting on the wall is another that Picasso painted
of  Dora. He painted many o herall differently. He must have seen her
in many different ways. By the way, the paintings on the wall are
straight in the painting, but again, I cannot seem to correct this arching
that I get with my camera which always makes them look off.
This is a nice size of 14 x 14 and the sides are painted so no frame
is needed.

Here is a bit more info on Dora Marr and Picasso: Enjoy!

Picasso and Dora Maar - A Mercurial Meeting of Minds

In the winter of 1935 Picasso became intimately involved with
Dora Maar, a stunningly beautiful, passionate and acutely intelligent
young woman. Dora's influence was to stimulate one of the most
innovative periods of his career. His personal life was in turmoil when
they met: he had broken up with his wife Olga Koklova, a ballet dancer
with the Ballet Russes; and Marie-Thérèse Walter, his mistress since
1927, had given birth to their daughter, Maya. He felt incapable of
painting and instead devoted his creative energy to writing poetry.

Dora Maar was already established in Paris as an acclaimed fashion
and publicity photographer, before her involvement with Picasso.
Aside from her commercial practice she was an innovative Surrealist
photographer, painter, intellectual and political activist. It is easy to
understand how the meeting of Dora and Picasso's  inventive
minds  influenced their work and fed each other's creative
potential.

Picasso and Dora had a complex personal and artistic relationship
that spanned the intense period from the outbreak of the Spanish
Civil War to the end of the Second World War. Picasso once
admitted that for him, Maar had become the personification
of war as he painted her many times during World War II.
Shortly after their first meeting, in the winter of 1935/36, they began
an artistic collaboration. Dora photographed Picasso in her studio at
at 29, rue d'Astorg. These early portraits are important records
that capture Picasso, the guarded professional artist, as he gradually
surrenders to the warmth and tenderness of a close relationship.
Mysteriously, Dora developed some of these portraits but never
printed them. It is almost as if the ethereal nature of the negatives had
captured the soul of the man she loved, a secret she preferred to keep
to herself.

She became Picasso's constant companion and lover from 1936
through April, 1944.  Maar went back to painting and exhibited in
Paris soon after Picasso left her for Françoise.
In later years she became a recluse, dying poor and alone.

Maar kept many of Piccaso’s portraits of her for herself until she
died in 1997.She suffered Picasso’s moods during their love affair.
Maar and Picasso’s love affair ended in 1944 and Picasso left her
a drawing of 1915 as a good-bye gift.

I think every woman loves Andy Warhol's Shoe paintings.
A few years ago I did a very small painting of his shoes
paintings and it sold in 5 minutes. It was similar to this one
but much smaller. I can't image being in a shop full of shoes
that Andy Warhol designed. Humm....how many
would you buy?

Andrew Warhola (August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987), known as Andy Warhol, was an American painter, print maker , and filmmaker who was a leading figure in the  visual art movement t known as pop art.

In the sixties Warhol started painting daily objects of mass production like Campbell Soup cans and Coke bottles. Soon he became a famous figure in the New York art scene. From 1962 on he started making silkscreen prints of famous personalities like Marilyn Monroe or Elizabeth
The pop artist not only depicted mass products but he also wanted to mass produce his own works of pop art. Consequently he founded The Factory in 1962. It was an art studio where he employed in a rather chaotic way "art workers" to mass produce mainly prints and posters but also other items like shoes designed by the artist. The first location of the Factory was in 231 E. 47th Street, 5th Floor (between 1st &  2nd Ave).Taylor.

Andy Warhol died February 22, 1987 from complications after a gall bladder operation. More than 2000 people attended the memorial mass at St.Patrick's Cathedral. The pop art icon Warhol was also a religious man - a little known fact.
