11 x 14 Interior Oil Painting on Canvas

This painting is sooo 60's! Do you remember the Hippie Movement and Flower Power fro that period?

Flower power was a slogan used during the late 1960s and early 1970s as a symbol of passive
resistance and non-violence ideology. It is rooted  in the opposition movement to the Vietnam War.
The expression was coined by the American  beat poet Allen Ginsberg in 1965 as a means to
transform war protests into peaceful affirmative spectacles. Hippies embraced the symbolism by
dressing in clothing with embroidered flowers and vibrant colors, wearing flowers in their hair, and
distributing flowers to the public, becoming known as flower children. The term later became
generalized as a modern reference to the hippie movement and a culture of drugs,  psychedelic
music, psychedelic art and social permissiveness.

I always think of this when I see Rousseau's flower paintings for some reason so along with some
crazy chairs, flower boots and a 60's TV, this is an interior painting representing:

Flower Power
Enjoy!

Rousseau, Henri, known as Le Douanier Rousseau (1844-1910). French painter, the most celebrated of naïve artists.
His character was extraordinarily ingenuous and he suffered much ridicule (although he sometimes interpreted sarcastic remarks literally and took them as praise) as well as enduring great poverty.
However, his faith in his own abilities never wavered. Tt was the innocence and charm of his work that won him the admiration of the avant-garde: in 1908 Picasso gave a banquet, half serious half burlesque, in his honor.
Rousseau is now best known for his jungle scenes, the first of which is Surprised! (Tropical Storm with a Tiger) (National Gallery, London, 1891) and the last The Dream (MOMA, New York, 1910). These two paintings are works of great imaginative power, in which he showed his extraordinary ability to retain the utter freshness of his vision even when working on a large scale and with loving attention to detail. He claimed such scenes were inspired by his experiences in Mexico, but in fact his sources were illustrated books and visits to the zoo and botanical gardens in Paris.

14 x 18 Clown Oil Painting on Canvas

Loved painting this!! I remember Emmett well when I was a child.
You can image how long it took to complete this painting and I loved
every minute of it!!

He has such and interesting life. I really like the painting of Emmett and
his wife Eva Moore by Barry Leighton Jones. She was also a clown.
So touching!

What a fun sofa. I could just cuddle up on it and enjoy Emmet's
presence in the room and all the great paintings of him. Barry Leighton
Jones was the only artist that Emmett would allow to paint him. He passed
away in 2011 so I thought this would be a great homage to him as well
as Emmett Kelly.

Enjoy
Weary Willy!

Emmett Kelly and  Eva Moore His Wife

Emmett Leo Kelly (December 9, 1898 - March 28, 1979) was an American circus performer, who created the memorable clown figure "Weary Willie", based on the  hobo's of the Depression era.
Kelly began his career as a  trapeze artist. By 1923, Emmett Kelly was working his trapeze act with John Robinson's circus when he met and married Eva Moore, another circus trapeze artist. They later performed together as the "Aerial Kelly's" with Emmett still performing occasionally as a white face clown.
He started working as a clown full-time in 1931, and it was only after years of attempting to persuade the management that he was able to switch from a white face clown to the hobo clown that he had sketched ten years earlier while working at an art firm.
"Weary Willie" was a tragic  figure: a clown, who could usually be seen sweeping up the circus rings after the other performers. He tried but failed to sweep up the pool of light of a spotlight. His routine was revolutionary at the time: traditionally, clowns wore white face and performed slapstick stunts intended to make people laugh. Kelly did perform stunts too—one of his most famous acts was trying to crack a  peanut  with a sledgehammer—but as a tramp, he also appealed to the sympathy of his audience.
From 1942–1956 Kelly performed with the  Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus, where he was a major attraction, though he took the 1956 season off to perform as the mascot t for the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team. He also landed a number of Broadway and film roles, including the role of "Willie" in  Cecil B. DeMille's The Greatest Show on Earth (1952). He also appeared in the Bertram Mills Circus.

Barry Leighton-Jones was born in London, England in 1932 and is a direct descendant of the Victorian artist and President of the Royal Academy, Lord Frederic Leighton. He began his artistic career at the age of five by winning a major art competition, and later completed seven years of academic training at Sidcup and Brighton and was tutored by the acclaimed English artist and illustrator from the Royal College of Art - John Minton.
After launching himself straight into the art world, his paintings were very quickly in demand, many of them were published and his international reputation began. In 1985, he was chosen to create a series of images based on the life and work of the famous American clown - Emmett Kelly. Many of the paintings and sketches were produced as limited edition prints and figurines, all becoming best sellers and eagerly sought after by collectors all over the U.S.A. He is now known as one of the leading painters of clowns in America. His work, whether depicting children, social situations or entertainers, is full of humor, celebration and pathos.

Light My Fire Red Nude Painting by k Madison Moore

Light My Fire

Emotions in Color

11 x 14 Red Nude il Painting n Canvas

Emotions in Color is my new Nude Series. My son has been
insisting that I do my nudes in red so I finally got around to it
and now I am so pleased to have found the time to work on this
new series.

My Blue Nudes Series has been so successful that I decided to
now create and whole new series in many colors. I really enjoyed
painting this in red being it is my favorite color. I recently had a
request from a collector to do a very large nude couple in red so
I am confident that it will be beautiful when it is completed.

Red represents passion. There is so much passion in this piece
and doing it in red lit my fire now to do a new series. So with a
double meaning, I could not think of a better title.

Light my Fire
Enjoy!

Interior Painting Homage to R C Gorman by k Madison Moore

R.C. Gorman:

"I was born near Canyon de Chelly in Arizona and spent my early years living close to nature and Navajo tradition. My family was rich in artistic talent and creative spirit, but not in material possessions. I have been fortunate to live and work in the beautiful Taos Valley, an environment also rich in artistry and tradition. The spirit of Taos has encouraged and inspired me, and my focus as an artist matured here. I’m truly grateful to my friends, drinking buddies, family, patrons, and my loyal staff—all of whom have made my way of life here possible. Thanks for sharing the light."  -  R.C. Gorman in 1998

This was really something different for me to paint. I had a commission
many years ago do do a 5' x 7' Gorman reproduction. The photo that was supplied
to me was the size of a postage stamp. There was not a lot of information about him
then as it was long before the internet so I used a magnifying glass to do the large
format painting. Since then, I have always admired his style and color palette
and the softness of his work. He passed away in 2005 so this is my homage to him
for bringing us the beauty of his soul forever.

Native American Women
Homage to R. C. Gorman

Rudolph Carl Gorman (July 26, 1931 – November 3, 2005) was a  native American Artist of the Navajo  Nation.[ Referred to as "the  Picasso of American Indian art" by the New Your Times. his paintings are primarily of Native American women and characterized by fluid forms and vibrant  colors, though he also worked in sculpture, ceramics, and stone lithography. He was also an avid lover of cuisine, authoring four cookbooks, (with accompanying drawings) called Nudes and Food.

Gorman learned about the work of the Mexican social realists: Diego RiveraDavid Siqueiros, and Rufino Tamayo. He became inspired by their colors and forms to change from abstraction to abstract realism. He used abstract forms and shapes to create his own unique, personal realistic style, recognizable to all who are acquainted with his work. While in Mexico, he also learned stone lithography from a master printer, Jose Sanchez. He used lithography throughout his life as a means of making original multiple images of his inspirations, often working by drawing directly on the stones from which the lithographs were printed.
Gorman collected many Taos artists including several oil paintings by Bill Rane, whom Gorman said was his favorite Taos painter, Rane died on September 2, 2005 and Gorman fell ill 16 days later. They both had long-time galleries on Ledoux Street in Taos. Following their deaths in the fall of 2005, people in Taos said that it had been a very sad fall on Taos' Historic Gallery Row.

I haven't painted with Georgia for quite
awhile so decided to do another. I am especially
happy with the floral carpet after one of her beautiful
flower paintings. The chandelier looks great reflecting
in the mirror, but my favorite is the gentlemen peaking
around the door watching her play....humm...
wonder who he is?

Love Songs for Georgia

Artist and painter Georgia O'Keeffe was born on November 15, 1887, in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Known for her striking flower paintings and other captivating works, O'Keeffe was one of the greatest American artists of the twentieth century. She took to making art at a young age and went to study at the Art Institute of Chicago in the early 1900s. Later, while living in New York, she studied with such artists as William Merritt Chase as a member of the Art Students League.
Following O' Keeffe's death, her family contested her will because  codicils made to it in the 1980s had left all of her estate to Hamilton. The case was ultimately settled out of court in July 1987.] The case became famous as case law in estate planning. A substantial part of her estate's assets were transferred to the Georgia O' Keeffe Foundation, which dissolved in 2006, leaving these assets to the Georgia O' Keefe Museum, established in Santa Fe in 1997 to perpetuate O' Keeffe's artistic legacy. These assets included a large body of her work, photographs, archival materials, and her Abiquiu house, library, and property.

Pollock Gone Wild Interior Painting by k Madison Moore Inspired by Jackson Pollock

Painting with The Masters

11 x 14 Interior Oil Painting on Canvas

Several years ago I painted a small similar
painting to this one. I liked it so much I decided
to do another. Obviously with Pollock's style
you could never make two paintings inspired by
him, to similar!

I guess this is the way I see him when I think of him.
I saw the movie and he was so erratic with his work
and paint was everywhere. I could just see him doing
this to a room, bare feet and all walking in the paint!

I had such fun just splashing paint on the canvas
and all over everything!! A Fun painting with
a lot of energy... an event... as his work was
once called.

Enjoy

Pollock Gone Wild

Paul Jackson Pollock (January 28, 1912 – August 11, 1956), known as Jackson Pollock, was an influential American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. He was well known for his unique style of  Drip painting.
During his lifetime, Pollock enjoyed considerable fame and notoriety, a major artist of his generation. Regarded as reclusive, he had a volatile personality, and struggled with alcoholism for most of his life. In 1945, he married the artist Lee Krasner, who became an important influence on his career and on his legacy.
Pollock died at the age of 44 in an alcohol-related, single-car accident; he was driving. In December 1956, several months after his death, Pollock was given a memorial  retrospective exhibition at the  Museum of Modern Ar (MoMA) in  New York City. A larger, more comprehensive exhibition of his work was held there in 1967. In 1998 and 1999, his work was honored with large-scale retrospective exhibitions at MoMA and at The  Tate in LondonIn 2000, Pollock was the subject of the film  Pollock, directed by and starring  Ed Harris, which won an  Academy Award.

Critical debate[
Pollock's work has been the subject of important critical debates. The critic Robert Coates once derided a number of Pollock’s works as “mere unorganized explosions of random energy, and therefore meaningless.
In a famous 1952 article in ARTnews,  Harold Rosenberg coined the term "action painting," and wrote that "what was to go on the canvas was not a picture but an event. The big moment came when it was decided to paint 'just to paint.' The gesture on the canvas was a gesture of liberation from value—political, aesthetic, moral." Many people assumed that he had modeled his "action painter" paradigm on Pollock.
Clement Greenbergsupported Pollock's work on formalistic grounds. It fit well with Greenberg's view of art history as a progressive purification in form and elimination of historical content. He considered Pollock's work as the best painting of its day and the culmination of the Western tradition via Cubism and  Cezanne to Manet..

Art Museum Collection Series Inspired by Richard Linder by k Madison Moore

It's a Man's World

Inspired by Richard Linder

©kMadisonMooreFineArtInc.2013

Art Museum Collection Series
16 x 20 Museum Oil Painting on Canvas

SOLD

I really like Richard Linder but this is the first painting I
have done inspired by him. I wanted to do an interior painting
inspired by him but his figures are very robotic which he is known for,
so I had a hard time coming up with something with an interior.
A Museum Painting seemed the way to go for this artist.

I paint so many works geared towards women that I thought this
would be more for men but of course I think woman would also
like the crazy ladies in they composition.

Our visitors for the exhibit are also inspired by some of his other
paintings. I think I like his work so much because my technique is
very similar to his and he always uses bight colors such as I do.

I wanted to make sure I could get a lot of details in this one so
I painted this one 16  x 20.

Here ar a few close ups so you can see the ladies sexy attire.
So funny how he saw things! This painting is definitely
a conversation piece.

Enjoy
It's a Man's World

Richard Lindner (November 11, 1901 –April 16, 1978) was a German-American painter.
In 1941 he went to the United States and worked in New York City as an illustrator of books and magazines, making contact with New York artists and German emigrants (Albert Einstein, Marlene Dietrich, Saul Steinberg). In 1948 he became an American citizen.
"The artistic universe of Richard Lindner is unique: he is highly genuine, he is full of urban energy, and he is driven by weird eroticism...Richard Lindner started his career as an artist eventually at the age of 40 in New York. In this metropolitan jungle Lindner created his OEvre: exciting and powerful images of robot like figures, amazons and heroines, harlequinades of self-styled heroes- his artistic panorama of the unruly 60s and 70s of the 20th century.

11 x 14 inches Interior Oil Painting on Canvas

SOLD - Thank you Pam

I was in the mood to "attack" color and details so here it is.  This painting was so much fun.
The more colors I can use in one painting the happier I am. Doing the grid in the background
was intense but I enjoyed every minute of it.
Hey, where did the couple go?
