I was commissioned to do this painting by a lovely
art collector in Australia as a surprise for her Mother’s
upcoming 90th birthday in October.
Her mother is a lover of Deanna Durban the famous actress
and Johann Strauss II the famous composer.
Mom loves pastels, music and flowers so we incorporated
all of her favorite things into this composition.
I thought it would be fun to have part of Johann coming forward
from the painting with Deanna listening intently and playing the piano
with him. My collector loves it so hoping Mom does too.
Happy 90th Birthday Mum.
Edna Mae Durbin (December 4, 1921 – c. April 20, 2013), known professionally as Deanna Durbin, was a Canadian actress and singer, who appeared in musical films in the 1930s and 1940s. With the technical skill and vocal range of a legitimate lyric soprano, she performed many styles from popular standards to operatic arias.
Her success as the ideal teenaged daughter in films 6) was credited with saving the studio from bankruptcy. In 1938, at the age of 17, Durbin was awarded the Academy Juvenile Award.
Johann Strauss II (October 25, 1825 – June 3, 1899), also known as Johann Strauss Jr., the Younger, the Son (German)Johann Baptist Strauss, was an Austrian composer of light music particularly dance music and operettas. He composed over 500 waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, and other types of dance music, as well as several operettas and a ballet. In his lifetime, he was known as "The Waltz King", and was largely then responsible for the popularity of the waltz in Vienna during the 19th century.
